Since the insertion of its first generation in the US market in 2002, the Cadillac CTS has been the model that defines the design trends of the Cadillac brand. The 2007 Detroit Motor Show was the launch pad for the new 2008 CTS.
The sharp lines of the CTS caused much controversy in its launch. But from the moment this sedan came to the market, its design conquered many buyers. The new 2008 edition expands that sharp and contemporary character by adding an injection of elegance.
The exterior design accentuates the sporty line by combining it with more luxury than in previous models. Traditional features such as the elongated vertical taillights and the bonnet divided by a central rib combine harmoniously with innovations such as LED front lights and huge 18-inch ultra-bright rims.
To make the Cadillac CTS look so dynamic even when still, the designers sought to work on the same design elements that make up the lines of the best sports cars.
The 2008 CTS is 50 mm wider than its predecessor due to the possibility of an all-wheel drive version. This increase in width added to the low position of the roof makes it more “crouching”. The roof could be lowered in height without sacrificing interior comfort for passengers.
The renovated Cadillac CTS 2008 measures 4.766 mm long, 1.841 mm wide and 1.472 mm high. The long wheelbase of 2,880 mm gives the new sedan a smooth ride in urban handling.
The standard engine is a 3.600 cm3 displacement V6 with VVT (variable-valve-timing) system. This engine delivers a power of 258 hp and connects to a six-speed transmission (manual or automatic). An optional engine features a direct injection system and reaches a power of 300 hp. It should be noted that this option keeps emissions low and significantly reduces fuel consumption.
The new 2008 CTS introduces a new interior design scheme for Cadillac, accentuating technical precision with elegant handmade details. Very different from the first CTS, the current interior design is decidedly more pompous, with quite ornamentation, luxury details and special care regarding the selected materials.
The steering wheel is leather-coated and includes cruise navigation controls and audio equipment control buttons. The center console is also hand coated, its shape with continuity plus its seamless finish resembles those of sports coupe cars, once again emphasizing the sport spirit of this sedan.
New generation seats, known as thin-seat, allow for optimal interior space in the passenger compartment while incorporating a lot of technology. The possibility to select the temperature of each seat and the storage of memory of seating configurations can be highlighted, meaning that each user can have their choice of settings by simply activating it.
The new 2008 CTS showcases an evolution of Cadillac design that achieves a remarkable combination of luxury, technology and functionality in a sedan aimed at creating the same desire that sportsmen arouse in car enthusiasts.
