The future of NASCAR is much closer than it seems. NASCAR is working on regulations for its cars of the future, which is indeed a very immediate future. The new generation of cars, which receive the promotional name of Car of tomorrow (the car of tomorrow), present modifications in mechanical and aerodynamic aspects, impacting the latter in general aesthetics.
The new vehicles will be used in 2007 in 16 races out of the total of 36 that makes the calendar of the Nextel Cup. It has already been announced that “the car of tomorrow” will be present in 26 races in 2008 and will be adopted stable and definitely for the entire 2009 championship.
The first evaluation of the new cars was carried out at the Michigan International Speedway oval. During the test session they worked on a key factor such as aerodynamics.
A lot of work was also done in the development of new elements that make the stability and maneuverability of the car. The aim was to achieve the maximum possible performance in order to verify developments and look for possible faults or defects.
The test session of the new vehicles also featured the three teams that will compete with Toyota in 2007: Team Red Bull, Michael Waltrip Racing and Bill Davis Racing.
Other front-line teams also tested their cars, including Hendrick Motorsports (with star driver Jeff Gordon), Roush Racing (Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth) and Penske Racing (Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman).
The Toyota Camry designed for the regulations of the “car of tomorrow” rotated in the oval satisfactorily.
Lee White, vice president and manager of Toyota Racing Development, said he was very proud to participate in the evolution of NASCAR cars. It seems that the Toyota company is ready to disembark at a great level in the most American category by tradition.
