Chrysler presented at the 2007 Detroit Motor Show Nassau Concept, a design exercise that according to this American company seeks a new definition of what Chrysler is... something of a renewal of identity.
This is a vehicle difficult to describe with the traditional nomenclature, as it is a four-door sedan but with the aesthetic treatment of a coupe. It could almost be called a four-door coupe?
A fact is certain: this car has all the elements of comfort and luxury to be considered a high-end car. In terms of its size we can say that it is larger than it looks, suffice to mention that it uses the same platform as the Chrysler 300 that measures 3,048 mm between axles.
The main designer of this concept, Alan Barrington, explained that one of the main ideas was to get the interior comfort of an SUV combined with the more stable and smooth ride of a sedan.
Barrington defines the Nassau Concept as a four-door coupe for four adult passengers. The designer also states that this type of vehicle could bring Chrysler closer to the luxury car segment.
Reality indicates that so far Chrysler has never been able to place a product in that segment of luxury cars, where European cars prevail.
Previously, Chrysler attempted to surprise with the Chrysler Imperial, a concept that took design standards from the Rolls-Royce and Bentley of the 1990s. But the result was a very rough exterior with a somewhat better interior.
As already mentioned, the Nassau Concept is based on the Chrysler 300 platform and adopts its HEMI engine of 6,100 cm3 and 425 hp. It also incorporates the 300C 5-speed automatic gearbox that would allow the Nassau to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 265 km/h.
The interior was designed by Ben Chang, who explained that his team had as a design premise approaching the graphic environments and styles present in the most fashionable electronic devices such as cell phones and MP3 players. It also acted with its onboard technology, which allows the car to be connected to the rest of the world via wireless devices.
