Rinspeed, the concept car manufacturer company, surprises again with its innovations. In the past had presented an amphibious car, now they exceed their own limits by designing a “submersible” car. It will be officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.
Such an exotic car is worthy of a James Bond film, even its exterior design is based on that of a typically English car: the Lotus Elise.
The Swiss factory Rinspeed developed a submersible amphibious car for the first time in history. They named him Rinspeed “squBA”. Like any model of the Swiss brand, this car will be a single unit without serial production possibilities.
The Rinspeed SQUBA Concept stands out not for aesthetic innovations, but for being the first submersible car. As stated by its creators, it has the capacity to operate at 10 meters depth driven by 2 propellers in the front and 2 water jet impellers located under the rear overhang.
For travel on land, it has an electric motor and rear-wheel drive. No benefits or autonomy values were specified, which would have to await its launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.
The body is made up of nano carbon tubes that make it as ultra-light as it is structurally rigid. In turn, it contains a built-in oxygen supply system for the driver and passenger when travelling underwater.
Swiss design company Rinspeed has gained a reputation for its exotic prototypes, among which we can highlight several models such as the translucent ExAsis; the Splash hydroglider, with which it set a speed record when crossing the English Channel; and more recently the concept Mr. Rinspeed Zazen.
Rinspeed director Frank Rinderknecht explained that this car symbolizes the realization of a long-awaited dream both in reality and fiction. And referring to fiction, it is clear that the car would be ideal to be used in films such as James Bond's famous “The Spy Who Loved Me”.
