The Mitsubishi Concept-RA was presented at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show. This sports coupe stands out for its low-polluting turbodiesel engine and the use of technologies such as the exclusive all-wheel drive control system of the Japanese brand.
From the technology to the design of this concept car they are unique. Mitsubishi Concept-RA designer Gary Ragle explained that the main shape of the car volume is based on an almond. In turn, this symbolism was used as an excuse to associate the concept of nature to the car, because of its low level of polluting emanations.
Outwardly, this car impacts by the dynamism of its lines. The lifting of the waist line and the front aesthetics really seem to put it in motion. The voluptuous catwalks aim to emphasize that the vehicle has four-wheel drive, while adding to the Mitsubishi Concept-RA look more high-performance sports.
Various elements such as the front grill, optics, black hood and side air vents emphasize the design style of this coupe. However, probably the most daring elements are the doors and their opening upwards as in many Lamborghini models.
The Mitsubishi Concept-RA engine is turbodiesel and has 4 cylinders with double overhead camshaft (DOHC). With 2,200 cm3 displacement and 16 valves, this engine stands out for having a turbocharger of geometry and variable diffuser. This allows you to control the flow of air entering the turbine for optimal performance at every moment.
The engine, called MIVEC, also stands out for its 201 horsepower and 420 Nm torque. To take advantage of the impeller on board this coupe, Mitsubishi included the already proven dual clutch transmission SST.
Active systems such as stability control and central active differential are also presented. In addition, the S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control) system. This device controls all-wheel drive very efficiently.
Inside we sought to capture the sensation of a jet cabin, combining with the indicators and materials most typically present in a classic sports car.
Considering that the current Mitsubishi Eclipse in the US market is a bit in years, it could be very viable for this concept-ra to be a sample of what could be the next replacement in the brand's sports segment.
