The Ferrari 340 Mexico Spider was specially built to participate in the Pan American Race in Mexico in 1952. Although one of the copies sent could not participate in the competition because it was held in customs...
The Ferrari 340 Mexico was designed by the prestigious bodybuilder Vignale. The Spider body was an optimal balance to reduce dimensions to the maximum. The main need was to reduce the total weight while maintaining a heavy and rigid chassis that allowed the huge V12 engine that generated vibrations and torsion movements to be adopted.
The engine used was the then new V12 designed by the famous Aurelio Lampredi. With 4,101 cm3 of engine capacity and a compression ratio of 8.4 to 1, a power of 280 horses at 6,600 rpm was achieved. With such an impeller and a five-speed manual gearbox, the Ferrari 340 Mexico reached a top speed of 280 km/h. Its acceleration was excellent and the car was quite stable.
