With a very traditional design, it came to the market in 1996. It appeared very close to fifty years of the Italian brand. It inherits the sporty and classic style in turn from the models of the late 50s. Many associated it with the 250 GTO.

The fact that Ferrari does not officially present itself in GT tourism championships, deprived us of seeing a beautiful and potentially winning vehicle in action. Some private teams took some 550 copies to the tracks, but the dominance of the Dodge Viper Coupe racing in the late 90s prevented them from even appearing.

The Ferrari 550 features a long trunk, with large headlights and air intakes for the engine and front brake discs. The rear cabin provides comfortable space for two passengers.

The tail of the car is topped by a small ascent towards the end, which acts as a spoiler, for greater stability in curves at high speeds. The four circular taillights, while already classic, gained prominence in other Ferrari models. Even new models, of different styles, include them.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello features a 5 500 cm3 front V12 engine with 48 valves (4 overhead camshaft) and electronic fuel injection Bosch Motronic 5.2. It develops a maximum power of 485 hp at 7,000 rpm and a torque of 585 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The V12 is electronically self-limited at 7,000 rpm. The power is transmitted through a manual 6-speed gearbox. It is rear-wheel drive, with self-locking differential ZF.
