The Apollo is a very successful creation by Roland Gumpert, former head of the department dedicated to competition at Audi, by the way. This car was developed exclusively for sports use on race tracks, although it is sold to the public and is suitable for driving on the street legally in its standard condition. The sporty character of the Apollo is summarized in the following data: it has a V8 twin-turbo engine that delivers 650 hp, this allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 360 km/h.

The official description of the car states that “the challenge was to develop an exceptional design that combines the advanced aerodynamic requirements of a thoroughbred racing with the aesthetic form associated with an exclusive vehicle.” It is also explained that “we sought to achieve the perfect synthesis between form and function, without compromising one or the other”.

Engineers conducted numerous tests in the wind tunnel to improve the aerodynamic capabilities of the Gumpert Apollo. It is thanks to this development process that this sports car enjoys superior performance and maneuverability than many of its rivals. It also provides the whole with the tubular chassis, which, apart from structural rigidity, provides protection to passengers.

As far as suspensions are concerned, the Apollo is specially configured for the demands of racing track handling. While the main goal is maximum sporting performance, the official Apollo description points out that the level of passenger comfort is outstanding, which is very rare in such a high-flying sports vehicle.

With regard to the interior of the Gumpert Apollo, which is accessed through gull wing doors, the buyer can choose different combinations of materials. This gives the possibility to give the interior a more sporty character or tending to elegance.
