Peugeot has as its current project the development of a minivan to compete in the short term with successful vehicles such as the Citroën Picasso, the Renault Scénic and the Ford C-Max. The new Peugeot product will be named 3008 and will share the platform with the 308, next replacement of the 307.

Peugeot will try to have a minivan on the market for 2009. To reduce development times and high costs, this car will share the Peugeot 308 platform that will replace the current 307. The French brand is expected to work intensively during 2007 to be able to present the 3008 at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2008

While to date there are no official sketches or photos revealed by Peugeot, the aesthetics of the vehicle are expected to take on many features of the small Peugeot 1007, especially in its rear. The brand's distinctive design elements are expected to be seen in the front: large optics and a short smooth bonnet with ribs on its sides that are twinned with the “A” pillars.

The interior of the 3008 minivan would be equipped with five seats, although they have not ruled out the possibility of presenting a seven-passenger version to compete with the Citroën of the same characteristics. The five-seater version would measure approximately 4,600 mm long, the seven seater being one hundred millimeters longer.

In a market where Peugeot is currently not present, they are expected to bring technical innovations as a positioning strategy. Some of these innovations could be the all-wheel drive option and the debut of the long-awaited hybrid engine that the PSA Group has been developing for a long time.

This market is already well populated by products such as the Chevrolet Zafira, Citroën Picasso, Ford C-Max, Renault Scénic and Volkswagen Touran. That's why Peugeot is obliged to play its card for an innovative and differentiating factor. What is certain is that it will be marketed no earlier than 2009 with naphtha engine options (developed with BMW) and HDi diesel.

The main stimulus to enter this market is its growth, combined with the success of sales achieved by Renault with the Scénic, which sells almost 120,000 units per year.

Peugeot has set a very important goal for success: to keep the base price of 3008 below 20,000 euros, preferably close to 19,000 euros.
