Lincoln, the luxury car division of Ford Motor Company introduced the new Lincoln MKR concept at the 2007 Detroit Motor Show. The MKR is based on the Mustang platform but adapted to the needs of a sedan almost 5 meters long.

While Lincoln is in charge of Ford's high-end cars, in recent years he has always been criticized for maintaining designs that, far from conservative, are outdated and unrefined. Added to the sales successes of Cadillac, its most direct rival, Lincoln lost ground among American consumers.

The Cadillac CTS is a well-placed product on the market, and the reality is that Lincoln is not up to competing with that well-designed and state-of-the-art vehicle.

On the other hand, Cadillac had announced the production of the Sixteen, that luxurious prototype of more than five and a half meters long and 1,000 horsepower. This disturbed Lincoln and motivated the design of this concept car MKR. Finally, the Lincoln MKR was introduced just by the time Cadillac executives announced that the Sixteen would not be brought into production...

Returning to the description of the Lincoln MKR, the designers carried out the will of the company's managers well: to create a very luxurious concept with a sporty lineage, which in turn serves to mark the trend of future generations of cars of this company so traditional in the US market.

The Lincoln MKR was developed on the Ford Mustangplatform, adapting its specifications to the requirements of a sedan measuring 4,970 mm long. The interior is spacious but reduced for four passengers, as it has four independent seats.

The exterior design is very sporty and dynamic. In the front stands the grid divided into two symmetrical openings inspired by the Continental 1941 model. Small front optics are integrated into the same front openings. The surfaces are smooth and clear of ornaments or moldings that disrupt formal continuity.

From the profile, the waist line is slightly ascending with small windows. Even so, the interior is bright thanks to the adoption of a glass ceiling. The trunk of the MKR concept is short but large, standing out for being quite square and tall. Bright 21-inch rims make this sedan look stunning.

To drive the Lincoln MKR's 1,850 kg weight, a V6 “TwinForce” engine of 3,500 cm3 of supercharged displacement with two twin turbos was included. Powered by E85 ethanol, this V6 achieves a maximum power of 415 hp and drives the MKR from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The transmission features a six-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

In the interior, the design is modern and elegant, the combination of cream color and dark shades of brown and black make it very pleasant and bright. Between the seats there is a wooden central console that is born on the front and reaches the rear seats.

According to company spokesmen, with the necessary adjustments and adaptations, MKR could be produced in 2008.
