Lamborghini always aimed to defeat Ferrari. He had a first partial victory with Miura. But to maintain the level and prove that it was not just luck, Lamborghini built and introduced the Countach in 1973. The car debuted in the streets a year after its launch at the Geneva Motor Show.
In 1985, again at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini updated the successful sports car he called Countach Quattrovalvole. Thus he managed to stay against his rival Maranello, defeating the Ferrari Testarossa 1984 in performance. The new engine of nearly 5,200 cm3 allowed the Countach to accelerate faster and achieve higher final speed than its competitor.
Bertone's design featured innovations and details that set the trend. The Countach stood out for its radiators mounted on the upper rear of the body and the vertical opening doors, like gull wings. Other technical details include the front location of the battery and brake booster for better weight distribution. The construction of the body is carried out in light alloy and the floor in fiberglass.
