Ford renews itself aesthetically, always oriented within its great achievement: the kinetic design. The new Ford Fiesta adopts the aesthetics of the Ford Verve Concept, managing to maintain a generous size with a favorable weight reduction. It will be presented at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show and will reach the European market by the end of the year.
After some conjecture about the new Ford car for segment B, the oval brand announced that they will continue to be named Fiesta, now all over the world. Thus, the tradition that started this model in 1976 will continue.
The new 2009 Ford Fiesta rescues the aesthetics of the Ford Verve Concept both in its body and inside. The Fiesta will share its platform with the Mazda 2. Both cars share general characteristics.
Ford engineers worked to achieve a significant reduction in the total weight of the Fiesta without shrinking its size or diminishing its interior habitability. For this purpose, very light steel pieces of high impact resistance were used, improving the safety of passengers. Additional elements improve safety, such as the driver's knee airbag.
To begin with, the European Fiesta will have 4-cylinder nafteros and diesel engines. The novelty will be a Duratec Ti-VCT 4 cylinders naphthero of 1,600 cm3 of cylinder capacity. This engine will be one of the new Ford engines in the segment. Its benefits lie in the fuel economy and the lowest environmental impact.
Fiesta 2009 will continue with the expansion of the Ford eNetic, which minimizes carbon dioxide emissions to levels below 100 g/km, while the US version of the Fiesta would be offered with nafteros boosters and an “EcoBoost” version of 1,400 cm3.
As for the exterior, the Fiesta will be available with 3-door and 5-door “hatchback” bodywork. Its design impacts because it looks larger than the real ones.
However, its exterior is quite voluminous, a fact that interrupts the tradition of very compact exteriors in the Fiesta. The total length would be around 3,700 mm.
The interior maintains the futuristic aesthetics already exhibited in the Verve Concept, incorporating technology applied to communications and mobile phone accessories.
Production of the Ford Fiesta will begin in the European autumn (2008) at the industrial plant in Cologne. Later it will also be manufactured in Valencia, where it will start from the beginning of 2009.
