Volkswagen Up! Concept
The Volkswagen Up! Concept is a sample of what could be the vehicle with which this German brand competes in the emerging market of ultra-compact cars such as Toyota's iQ and Fiat 500.

The Volkswagen Up! Concept was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2007 to hear the opinion of the European public on its design. Right there designer Walter da Silva explained that the Concept Up! could become a new Volkswagen icon like the Beetle, the Samba Bus and even the Golf.

Volkswagen's vision for Concept Up! (or the car that derives from it) is to reach a new beginning, communicating to users a sense of dynamism and future. The concept car itself aims to achieve a benchmark of brand technology, which in turn will be used in the next production cars. The Volkswagen Up! Concept should then turn out something like an icon that does not go out of fashion.

In turn, this prototype was designed in such a way as to make its transformation to production car as fast as possible, avoiding major changes. Two important factors to achieve this goal were the selection of appropriate materials and the production processes involved.

The Volkswagen Up! Concept is then a small prototype that uses a rear engine with the same objective as seen in cars like the Mitsubishi i and the Smart ForTwo : to move the passenger compartment forward and thus make the most of the space to achieve better interior habitability.

With a total length of 3,450 mm and 1,630 mm wide, the VW Up! Concept features four seats, while three of these seats can be folded or removed and even stored in the rear and/or front. The aim is to expand the load capacity if necessary. The chairs are very compact but comfortable. This is because they are inflated with air to fit the passenger's body. They can then be deflated to remove or store.

The interior of the Volkswagen Up! Concept incorporates various comfort elements combined with a rather puristic design. It has a touch screen although with proximity sensor, that is to say that it is not necessary to touch it, just zoom in. From that screen you operate the satellite navigator, radio, on-board computer and climate control.
