Audi R8 2007: Official photos and release data
The Audi R8 will be released in mid-2007. It would be manufactured from the end of 2006 at the plant in Neckarsulm, Germany. To this end, the Volkswagen Group will have to invest approximately 28 Million Euros and make joint efforts between various parts of the group, as it is possible that one of the engines available for the R8 will be the V12 that equips the Lamborghini Gallardo. Remember that Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen group. The aforementioned engine stands out as its main characteristics its 12 cylinders in V, 5.000 cm3 of cylinder capacity and 500 horsepower.
A new assembly line, with at least 250 operators, will be designated for production of the Audi R8. Production of the R8 will take place at the Neckarsulm plant, where the A2 and A8 models are also manufactured. This line would be controlled by an Audi subsidiary company called Quattro GmbH.
Audi will be based on the prototype Le Mans, presented at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The R8 could have two engine options, an original Lamborghini V12 and an Audi V8, redesigned to meet the demands of a high-performance sports car.
The main differences with the Le Mans prototype would be in the exterior design, which would apparently be refined, so as not to look so futuristic and have more familiarity with the other vehicles of the German house. They say that a concept of the R8 or even a first definitive copy, a pre-series model, would be presented at the upcoming Paris 2006 Show, which will take place in September 2006.
