July 2006
Argentine President Néstor Kirchner participated in the inaugural ceremony of the manufacture of the Peugeot 307 at the factory located in El Palomar, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Also present were the president of the PSA group, Jean-Martin Folz and General Manager of Automobiles Peugeot, Frédéric Saint-Geours.
In 2003, the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group invested 50 million dollars in the country to conquer the segment of cars here called medium. The success achieved led to the decision of the group to invest figures close to 450 million pesos between 2005 and 2007. This plan provides for the local manufacture of the Citroën C4.
Currently Peugeot manufactures 4 models of vehicles in Argentina, the 206, the 307 in its 5-door and tricuerpo sedan versions, and the Partner utility. Perhaps the highlight is also that the El Palomar plant announced that it will work a third manufacturing shift, with which 1,000 more people will be employed. The plant located in El Palomar currently has 3,900 workers, to which 1,000 more will be added.
The vehicles produced at the El Palomar plant supply both the local market and other Latin American countries, although Peugeot will also try to conquer other countries in the international market.
