4x4 vehicles were born as a necessity, evolved adapting to different markets, were fashionable and today have consolidated to the point where all automakers have the need to have at least one in production.
The Cheyenne concept introduced by Chevrolet in 2003 tries to lay a standard on how the future of double cab pick-up can be, especially in the USA.
The combination of styling elegance, complete equipment, high performance and good load capacity are a constant in these types of concepts. The goal is for the user to have a versatile vehicle for personal and work use.
GM designers took as inspiration old models such as the Cameo 1955, the Cheyenne of the 70s and the Silverado 1998. One of the main indicators of the pursuit of comfort and elegance is observed in the interior: it is very spacious, refined and with very good visibility.
The great wheelbase benefits from a more stable ride and in the visual aspect generates a sense of safety. It also provides capacity and ease of loading in the box. The independent rear suspension incorporates the QS4 steering system present in some of the trucks already in production.
Two side doors behind the cabin allow access to the bed, apart from the traditional rear door facing the cargo box. This door opens completely or partially, having the option to use it as a work shelf. The bed is 71 cm from the floor, making it very easy to reach, this is thanks to the configuration of the independent rear suspension.
The box features closed drawers on the sides and slide spaces on the floor. It is also equipped with built-in lights and bands to hold loaded objects.
The hood, valve-type design, opens fully to give access to the 6000 cm3 Vortec V8 with supercharger, 500 hp and 580 lb foot torque. This engine is compatible with the DOD (Displacement on Demand) system that will be in production models in 2005, to reduce fuel consumption and fumes. This system deactivates half of the cylinders under normal driving conditions and gently and automatically reactivates them in more demanding conditions such as sudden accelerations, heavy load towing, etc.
