The Camaro Concept revives the hope of Chevrolet fans who hope to have a Camaro on the streets again. It turns out that American automobiles are following the same marketing strategy that European manufacturers use: wait to see what the opponent's move is and attack with a strong counterattack.
Chevrolet, the division of General Motors most linked to sports motorsport, saw once again how Ford presented its new Mustang. But even more carefully, he saw the development of the market. Chrysler also re-launched an old and successful model in 2005, the Charger. Now, while Chrysler was exhibiting the Challenger Concept at the 2006 Detroit Motor Show, the Chevrolet booth was also gathering people, impacted by the new prototype.
The first Camaro was born in 1967, in response to the bestseller of the Ford Mustang . After 35 years of success on the streets and on the racetracks, General Motors announced its discontinuity in 2002.
While the first Camaro Z-28 revealed a 290 HP 4.900 cm3 V8 engine, the new Chevrolet Camaro Concept 2006 boasts a 6,000 cm3 LS2 V8 engine and 400 horsepower. It has a manual 6-speed gearbox and a strong chassis with independent suspensions on all 4 wheels.
Although it was said that if the car is manufactured in series, it will receive a chassis “Zeta Lite” already developed and used by Holden, the subsidiary of General Motors in Australia. This chassis enables superior performance than the chassis of its rival, the Mustang GT.
The Camaro Concept 2006 measures 4.729 mm long and 2.806 mm wide. The camaro drops 400 hp to the ground through 21-inch diameter wheels at the front and 22-inch behind. Use 275/30 front tyres and 305/30 rear tyres.
