The Zonda C12 was the first car presented by the Pagani firm. This car powered by a Mercedes Benz engine was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1999. Previously, the creator of the Zonda, the Argentine Horacio Pagani had worked as a builder at Lamborghini on projects such as the Countach Evoluzione and as a designer on the P140 and Lamborghini Diablo.
Horacio Pagani arrived at Lamborghini recommended by the driver Juan Manuel Fangio. Since then, he gave ample evidence of his great capacity. While working for Lamborghini he conceived his personal dream: to design and manufacture his own sports car.
The Pagani Zonda C12 stands out for the construction of the chassis. The chrom-molybdenum steel tubular structure has a very high torsional rigidity, this combined with lightweight and resistant materials such as carbon fiber in the bodywork make an ideal set for a maximum performance car.
Another noteworthy fact is that Zonda successfully approves each of the 36 safety assessments previously carried out for manufacturing and marketing.
The performance of this first Zonda is more modest than those of the later Pagani models, but they are strong enough to compete seamlessly with any Ferrari or Porsche .
The V12 engine used in the Zonda is manufactured by Mercedes Benz and developed by AMG. The V12 delivers 394 hp power at 5,200 rpm and drives the Zonda from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The dynamic behavior of the car is excellent and the track tests conducted by experts stand out against other supersports.
The body of the Zonda C12 is electronically adjustable in height from the inside.
The equipment of the Zonda has all the necessary elements and comfort standards typical of a modern car, more than many other sports cars. Some equipment are: central locking and control of electric windows, electrically operated mirrors, automatic climate control, CD player and TV monitor.
To make it clear that this is a sports car with certain airs of luxury, the owners receive with each specimen a set of tailor-made leather suitcases and shoes in tune with the interior of the car and the bags.
