The new Audi TT

The new Audi TT is no longer a high-cost whim like the previous version. This radical change must be seen as a clear sign of the new measures taken by European car manufacturers. The brand-new TT shares its platform with the Volkswagen Golf, as well as engines and other mechanical elements.

It should be said as a reflection that, if the flagship sports of a prestigious company like Audi, characterized by its advanced technological development, shares a platform with a modest Volkswagen (without losing the very good VW Golf), it is clear that the decisions are being made with the reduction of costs as the main objective.

The next Audi TT is larger than the previous model and increased its wheelbase. This affects the total weight, which according to the versions ranges from 1,335 kg to 1,505 kg maximum. The weight factor is directly affected by the use of a heavy body consisting of 61 percent aluminum and 39 percent steel. Steel was used especially in the rear section of the car, thus achieving a more even weight distribution.

Technical specifications of the Audi TT

The Audi TT will be presented in coupe version, although it is believed that it will later be available as a convertible. With the same platform as the VW Golf, the TT will incorporate two engines. The first is a 4 cylinder in line of 2.000 cm3 that delivers 200 hp of power and 28.5 kgm of torque. With both manual and automatic gearbox (both 6-speed), it reaches a final speed of 240 km/h.

The second available engine will be a 3.200 cm3 V6 that delivers 250 hp of power and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. With Quattro traction (integral) and S-Tronic (manual or automatic) 6-speed gearbox, this TT accelerates up to 250 km/h maximum.

The first Audi TT suffered some setbacks in terms of aerodynamics. For the new version, the stability problem was carefully studied and corrected by implementing a small active spoiler, i.e. it rises automatically when the driver exceeds 120 km/h speed. The aerodynamic coefficient did not improve, maintaining a vulgar 0.31.

The equipment will feature elements such as satellite navigator, Bluetooth connection for mobile telephony and special lighting system for the curves of the road. Generally speaking, the interior did not change too much, small superfluous differences. It did improve the luggage load capacity, now 290 litres.
