Recently, photos and information of the new Peugeot 308 were released to the European market at the end of September 2007. This model will replace the 307, maintaining similar both its overall aesthetics and proportions.
The French brand already generates expectations in the market, spreading accurate information about the characteristics of the car that will succeed the successful Peugeot 307. The motorizations and the names of each model have already been confirmed, which differ in their equipment and impeller options.
At the time of the launch of the Peugeot 308 customers will be able to opt for 4 engine alternatives: two diesel engines and two naphthers. Subsequently, two more boosters will be offered, one diesel and the other naphthero. The latter will be the maximum performance and will equip more sport models.
The first diesel engines, both of four cylinders, will have a capacity of 1,600 cm3 with powers of 90 hp and 110 hp. All diesel engines will incorporate the particulate filter that Peugeot continues to develop with so much emphasis. While the engines powered by naphtha, also with 4 cylinders, will be 1,400 cm3 95 hp and 1,600 cm3 120 hp.
As far as the transmission is concerned, five alternatives can be selected, depending on the version of the car: starting with the five-speed and six-speed manual gearboxes, two four-speed and six-speed automatic plus a six-speed final manually operated but without clutch.
Aerodynamically this Peugeot 308 achieves a fairly low coefficient (0.29 cx), quite meritorious despite its great resistance to advance generated by the excessively large and open front design that penalizes it. This is perfectly based on the data of its aerodynamic resistance factor of 0.67 m2 (very high).
The Peugeot 308 body maintains the proportions and general lines of the 307, with major differences in front and side (rear). The novelty for the body is that there will be twelve colors to choose from, highlighting that five of them are new, in the ranges of yellow, blue, gray and black.
Going to the description of the interior of the passenger compartment, we note that chrome details abound. Another interesting fact is that the satellite navigator has a widescreen color screen, which can be displayed electrically from the same console.
The equipment of the new 308 includes options such as wheel pressure loss alarm, curved mobile lighting, xenon headlights, nine airbags, warning system for involuntary lane change, perfume dispensed from ventilation plus front and rear parking sensors. It is just disappointing to know that the stability control system will not be part of the standard equipment.
It remains simply to report on the names of the various models according to equipment levels: Comfort (in some places in Europe), Comfort Pack, Premium, Premium Pack and Feline. Being the version Peugeot 308 Feline the most sporting elements present.
