Peugeot presented the 907 Coupe as a modern and classic two-seater concept. Its design is the result of the pursuit of automotive culture and tradition, combined with new materials and cutting-edge technology.
The design of this sports coupe tries to express an elegant and sculptural shape typical of an authentic vehicle with class, luxurious by the choice of materials that cover it and generously sporty, both in terms of style and proportions and in terms of its mechanical characteristics.
According to the Peugeot statement, “whatever generation they belong to, stylists and engineers, genuine creatives nourished by a great automotive culture, enthusiastically exchange their inspirations, confront their ideas and reach an irremediable agreement on what a particular car like this represents. Concept Car 907, which stands at the crossroads of past, present and future.”
Summarizing the concept of the aesthetics of the car, we can say that these design parameters are what Peugeot considers to be the essence of what should be a genuine high-level Gran Turismo.
While the front of the 907 Coupe evokes the style of the production Peugeot 407, with unelegant, not to say rough features, the rear of the floor resembles a Formula 1 car, with the application of an air diffuser that allows for high stability at high speed. This is of great importance, since it allows you not to have to interrupt the design lines with oversized spoilers or deflectors.
The hood has a transparent center, to show off the air supply nozzles of each of its 12 V cylinders. The V12 engine of 5.892 cm3 that equips this concept is built entirely of aluminum, born of the union of two V6 of 2.946 cm3 and 24 valves.
The union of both impellers to give birth to the V12 called for a thorough revision of the distribution system, which allows for a higher speed of rotation. This V12 engine delivers a power of 500 hp at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 620 Nm at 3,750 rpm. They praise in the brand its softness of driving despite so much power and torque.
The V12 is positioned longitudinally behind the front axle and transfers its power by means of a small drive shaft to a sequential six-speed longitudinal bridge box, located in front of the rear axle. The clutch system is by dry controlled single disc. This car has rear-wheel drive and reaches a top speed of over 300 km/h.
The body of the Peugeot 907 is painted in a dark grey colour called “Molybdenum”. Its dimensions are smaller than it appears, precisely because the proportions used generate this visual effect. The total length is 4,370 mm, its maximum width is 1,880 mm and the height is 1,210 mm. It is worth mentioning a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
Already inside, the passenger compartment is clearly narrow and easily accessible. Passengers can travel comfortably in their seats, where they will find themselves surrounded by comfort elements typical of a high-end coupe.
Passenger safety is provided by a carbon fibre monocoque structure. This type of construction was first used by the French brand when it produced the Peugeot 905 Sport Prototype in the 1990s. At that time, they used the collaboration of the French company Dassault, a fighter aircraft builder.
Mechanical elements such as the four double triangle suspension halters are attached to this monocoque structure.
The entire interior, as well as the seats, are covered in brown/red leather and light grey Alcantara, with some real wood touches on the steering wheel arch and on the gear knob.
The dashboard, although digital, is “displayed” in analog system, and the touch screen on the center console is connected to a PC (with GPS and MP3 player, among other functions).
The vehicle is equipped with 18-inch wheels driveway on Michelin 275/40 tires on the front and 345/35 on the rear. Its sporty wheels, designed to simulate the intertwine of the old wire ray wheels, display the jaws and four ventilated brake discs, which act with ABS.
