In 1999, Audi marked a milestone in the history of the automotive industry, with the launch of the first vehicle with the continuous drive drive drive, called Multitronic®. Recently, the German brand has just produced the 500,000 unit of this gearbox.

The Multitronic® transmission was launched for the first time in the Audi A6, whose 2,880 cm3 engine developed a power of 193 HP and a maximum torque of 280 Nm. It was then, that the firm achieved something that no one had achieved until that time, coupled a continuous drive transmission into a high-torque mechanics.

In addition, he was the first to eliminate the skating effect on this type of transmissions, as the engine was easily raised, but without resulting in equivalent acceleration in the car.

The smoothness of the Multitronic® shift was well reflected in the successful television commercial that used the famous pelvic movement Elvis made legendary. So much so that, for a while, the Elvis doll became one of Audi's most sought-after accessories.
